Paintings

Catriona Stewart’s primary interest lies in mystery, sometimes explored through abstraction, sometimes through myth and symbol, and at times, in landscape. Each new work is an exploration, an experiment, in colour and what it communicates.

Colour Icons

The works are painted of single colours, illuminated by decorative bands of text inspired by medieval illuminated manuscripts. These words and quotations are intended to work almost subconsciously. Together, they create a place somewhere between abstraction, spirituality and dreams.

Myth

These paintings are explorations of myth (particularly the Paradise myth), mysteries and symbols, and the depth of thought and emotion they convey.

Landscape

Catriona’s first love was landscape. She finds inspiration there, particularly in the beautiful lines, shapes and colours of the Yorkshire Wolds and coast line where she lives.
